Referrals

Who Refers Students to Me?

School, College or University

Many referrals are made because of concerns that teaching staff raise about individual learners. Staff will typically act on their concerns either by contacting me directly or by advising the learner, or the learner’s parents, to do so.

Parents

Sometimes I am contacted directly by parents who are concerned at their child’s performance at, or response to, school or preschool. I usually recommended that such concerns first be referred to a member of teaching staff.

Other Specialists

Referrals often come from specialists in other areas: medical practitioners, paediatricians. speech & language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and fellow educational psychologists who feel that their own expertise is not suited to meeting a student’s needs.

Solicitors

In addition, a number of students are referred to me by solicitors in connection with Special Needs and Disability Tribunal appeals.
