Cognitive Assessments (Adults & Children)

A cognitive assessment helps us understand an individual’s overall intellectual profile and typically results in an IQ score.
For adults, we primarily use the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) or the Adaptive Behaviour Assessment System (ABAS).

For children, the assessment involves working one-to-one with an Educational Psychologist for around two hours. These sessions include puzzles, problem-solving tasks, and where appropriate – reading and writing activities to understand both cognitive ability and academic achievement. No preparation is needed, and our psychologists are experienced in helping anxious children feel at ease.

Each assessment concludes with a detailed written report, outlining the individual’s cognitive strengths and needs, along with tailored recommendations for support at home and in educational settings.

Full Educational Assessments

Our Educational Psychologist provides comprehensive diagnostic assessments to understand a child or young person’s learning, emotional, or behavioural needs. Reports can be tailored to meet school or institutional requirements and include clear, practical recommendations based on extensive knowledge of local services and specialist professionals such as speech & language and occupational therapists.

Strict confidentiality is always assured. A cognitive assessment helps us understand an individual’s overall intellectual profile and typically results in an IQ score.

Online Consultations

We offer structured one-hour online consultations for parents and young people. During this session, our psychologist:

  • gathers background information

  • explores areas of concern

  • speaks directly with the young person

  • reviews academic work, if needed

After the consultation, a brief report can be provided summarising recommendations. This is a valuable way to troubleshoot concerns without committing immediately to a full assessment.

Annual Reviews

We can revisit a child’s needs each year to understand how they are progressing and whether their support requirements have changed.

Assistant Psychologist Services

Assistant Psychologists offer additional observations, consultations, and practical support in schools to help implement recommendations. This complementary model is particularly effective given the rise in mental health needs in school-aged children.
